10 Primeval Buildings In The World



It is astonishing to see the oldest buildings constructed in the world still standing and used today. Check 10 structures below.
  • Dhamek Stupa in India – this massive stupa is built in 500 CE as a replacement to an earlier structure built by the great King Ashoka. Buddha activities are commemorated in this location. Stupas are built by King Ashoka to enshrine small pieces of calcinated bone and other Buddha relics.
  • Sanchi Stupa in India – this is the oldest stone structure in India. It is also called the “Great Stupa” at Sanchi.
  • The Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak in Bulgaria – this tomb dates back to the 4th century BCE. It is part of a large Thracian necropolis comprising a narrow corridor and a round burial chamber. This is listed on the UNESCO protected World Heritage Site since 1979.
  • The Parthenon Temple in Greece – this temple constructed in 447 BC was dedicated to the maiden goddess Athena. The Parthenon is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece and is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece.
  • Minoan Palace of Knossos in Greece – this palace is the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization.
  • Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt – also called the Pyramid of Khufu. This largest and oldest of the 3 pyramids in the Giza is also listed as the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
  • Pyramid of Djoser in Egypt – this pyramid was built during the 27th century BC was considered to be the earliest large-scale cut stone construction.
  • Tarxien Temples in Malta – this archaeological complex date to approximately 3150 BC. It was also accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.
  • La Hougue Bie in Jersey – this is a historic site with museum used around 3500 BC.
  • Tumulus of Bougon in France – this monument date to 4800 BC and its discovery in 1840 raised great scientific interest.
It is amazing how these structures were made without any modern technology or machine. These masterpieces of the ancient people serve as inspiration for many young builders these days.
