Interior design is defined as the art or process of designing the internal decoration of a room or building. The person who coordinates and manages such projects is called an interior designer. There is no clear definition of the interior design profession such that projects undertaken by an interior designer vary widely.

The terms decorator and designer can be used interchangeably but there is a distinction between the terms that relates to the scope of work undertaken, the level of education achieved, and often, the accreditation as a professional interior designer.
